Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio of an IR system

Infrared (IR), a new medium for indoor wireless communication system due to its abundant bandwidth that is virtually untapped and freely available, is become more and more popular in indoor wireless communication systems. Based on Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS/CDMA) technique, infrared systems will use low power on transmission and reception by spreading spectrum which could meet the requirement of health regulations. Another advantage is that infrared systems do not experience multi-path fading. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a DS/CDMA type infrared wireless system in a multi-user environment. We will numerically evaluate the Signal to Interference and Noise Rate (SINR) with the presence of multi-user interference, multi-path interference on different channel models and ambient noise.
